Die Casting - is the metal analogy to injection molding. Die castings are produced using matched metal molds that produce a cavity when the tool is closed. Molten metal is placed in a chamber in the die casting press and then injected at high speed into the cavity of the tool where it is cooled. Once the part has cooled, it is removed.

Process Characteristics
  • Tooling cost - high
  • Part Cost - low
  • Production Rate - high
  • Parts are easily machined to get close tolerance
  • Parts can be cast in Aluminum or Zinc
