Gas Injection Molding uses a partial shot of plastic and then high-pressure gas to finish filling the mold cavity with the plastic. This process gives designers flexibility they have not previously had in designing plastic parts and it also results in a lower cost and higher quality part.

Process Characteristics
  • Tooling Cost - moderate to high due to reduced molding pressure
  • Part Cost - low
  • Production rate - high
  • Design Flexibility due to elimination of sink and internal part stresses associated with high pressure filling.
  • Press size is reduced due to lower molding pressures.
  • Cycle time is reduced because thinner walls cool faster.
