Thermosets are formed by changing their chemical state. In processing, they are kept cool until they are formed into the desired shape, and then are heated to initiate the crosslinking chemical reaction that solidifies them. Thermosets can be formed only one time as the chemical reaction is irreversible. This stability gives these materials good strength and heat resistance at a relatively low cost.
